The economic-legal department implements scientific economic-legal research in the field of innovation activity and intellectual property rights. 

The scientific activity of the department is aimed at studying the problems: the transition of Ukraine's economy to the innovative model of development, consideration of economic and legal theoretical and practical aspects, conceptual principles of legal support of innovation infrastructure in Ukraine, legal support of intellectual property in Ukraine in the context of European integration. 

The priority directions of research of the department are: 

• the formation of legal framework for the creation of a national innovation system in Ukraine and the provision of state support for the commercialization of intellectual property rights;
• improvement of legal regulation of relations in the field of intellectual property with the purpose of  fitting it in the ratio of international acts;
• development of ways of adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in the field of innovation activity to the norms of international law; 
• sorting out the problems of intensification of intellectual property of Ukraine under the influence of new challenges of neo-economy development;
• study of the value of intellectual property in ensuring national safety in the economy, particular, in the market relations.
